American Environmentalist

Aldo Leopold was an American author, philosopher, naturalist, scientist, ecologist, forester and conservationist. Leopold was an influential forerunner of the environmental movement. He worked with the U.S. Forest Service from 1909–27 where he promoted establishment of wilderness areas. He then became the Professor of Game Management in the Agricultural Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin which was the first professorship for wildlife management. In 1935, he assisted the founding of the Wilderness Society.
