Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His many volumes include such works as A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, and Our Mutual Friend.
Charles Dickens was the first author to be very popular when he was alive. Technological developments as well as the qualities of his work enabled his fame to spread worldwide very quickly.
