TJ’s Playhouse
Location: Calgary, AB & Winnipeg, MB, Treaty #1 Territory
Type: Design+Build Project
The core intent of the playhouse was inspired by play and the natural desire for children to climb almost everything! Going through the Grey & Ivy curriculum, the design was proposed for a small green space in downtown Calgary, along the Bow River. Following multiple site visits and explorations, the need for a small designated play area was immediately identified. The concept proposed a structure that would engage easily with the imagination and curiosity of all children. The simple A-frame structure makes it obvious and invites them to climb and play almost anywhere within, on top, and around the playhouse. Due to its simple construction, the playhouse could easily be disassembled and transported from location to location. Following the design process, the playhouse was constructed in Winnipeg, where it currently lives.
